Pinecone, carnation, and acanthus-style motifs; horsehair is also used in outlines. Sometimes human hair forms the core, with cordonnet (fine cord) worked in buttonhole stitch to lift lightly and define outlines clearly.

Bodice and robe front trim
Cut from a large Point de France edging so the central motif depicting a vase and large flowers aligns at the center of the bodice.
In the 18th century, except for a few engageantes (cuff trim) and bonnet bavolet (draped trim), lace was not made for specific uses; long edgings were freely cut and sewn together.
